Are you a man of color looking for community and inspiration?  Look no futher, we have an answer for you!  On 5/27/17  B.R.U.H.S will start a series of readings and meetings for men of color that will stimulate and educate you about what other men of color are doing, saying, writing, and reading.  Come and meet some beautiful men with intellect and hearts that support and  engage you in a way you never imagined possible!

B.R.U.H.S. – Book Reading Uplifts His Spirit, started as a literary group aimed at Same Gender Loving Men of Color to gather together first Mondays of the month and discuss books and movies pertaining to the LGBT community. It was started in January 2013 by Turner Freeman, Darrell Johnson, and Rayceen Pendarvis in January 2013. Since then, it has grown to become a gathering where invited SGL literary artists have attended and shared their work with the group, as well as showing movies, documentaries, play reading, poetry slams, and interviews. The average attendance per gathering has been at least 25 people, as the age range is from 35+ years. With the events being held in the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Public Library, the attendance was always free of charge, and the guests invited participated pro bono.

With the MLK Library closing until 2021 for major renovations, BRUHS is looking to make the DC Center its new home to continue giving literary self published SGL men of color a platform and exposure to their community.
