Join the Latinx Coalition’s first meeting of 2018 as we welcome artist Xemiyulu Manibusan, who will lead us through an interactive art-making workshop as we consider the questions, what does Trans Latinx justice look like? What does it sound and feel like? How can we make visible the principles necessary to achieve Trans Latinx justice? By the end of the event, community members will have a working piece of art to take home that tells a story of what Trans Latinx justice means to them.

About our facilitator: XEMIYULU MANIBUSAN TAPEPECHUL is a Salvadoran Nawat Two-Spirit Non-Binary Transgender Womxn. She is a poet, playwright, director, actor, educator, the Director of Art & Culture at Trans Latin@ Coalition DMV, the Artistic Director of Teatro de la Septima/Seventh Generation Theatre, and a Resident at Earthstar Two-Spirit/QTBIPOC Healing Homestead. Xemi has presented with various colonial theatre companies, as well as New Native Theatre and the Maya Cultural Group of Centreville. Xemi writes social commentary on DC Theatre, Instead of Redface, Latinx Theatre, and other issues affecting Indigenous Transgender and Two-Spirit artists. Her first poetry chapbook, METZALI, will be released this April.

About Center Latinx: We are a program of The DC Center for the LGBT Community. We serve as a space for queer, trans, gender non-conforming, Black, brown, Indigenous, Two-Spirit, and disabled Latinxs in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) to connect / build / transform.

Únase a la primera reunión de la Coalición Latinx de 2018 mientras damos la bienvenida a la artista Xemiyulu Manibusan, quien nos guiará a través de un taller interactivo de creación de arte mientras consideramos las preguntas, ¿cómo se ve la justicia Trans Latinx? ¿Cómo suena y se siente? ¿Cómo podemos hacer visibles los principios necesarios para lograr la justicia Trans Latinx? Al final del evento, miembrxs de la comunidad tendrán una obra de arte para llevar a casa, y eso contará una historia de lo que la justicia Trans Latinx significa para ellxs.

Acerca de nuestra presentadora: XEMIYULU MANIBUSAN es una muxer trans salvadoreña Nawat de Dos Espíritus no binario. Ella es poeta, dramaturga, directora, actriz, educadora, directora de arte y cultura en la Coalicion Trans Latin@ DMV, directora artística del Teatro de la Septima Generación, y residente del Earthstar Two-Spirit/QTBIPOC Healing Homestead. Xemi se ha presentado con varias compañías de teatro coloniales y también con el Teatro Nuevo Nativo y el Grupo Cultural Maya de Centreville. Xemi escribe comentarios sociales sobre DC Theatre, en lugar de Redface, Latinx Theatre y otros temas que afectan a lxs artistas indígenas transgénero y de Dos Espíritus. Su primer libro de poemas, METZALI, será lanzado este abril.
