In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the DC Center and the DC Anti-Violence Project (a program of the DC Center) invite you to a community forum to discuss violence against the LGBT Community.

The goal of this event is to hear from the community about their experiences, hopes, and fears when it comes to addressing violence against the LGBT Community; to share community resources; and to identify strategic, achievable goals that we can work towards to make our city safer for everyone and to make sure violence against our community is addressed appropriately.

We are elated to announce that Lourdes Ashley Hunter will be our keynote speaker for this event.  Lourdes is an amazing activist and advocate for the transgender community in Washington, DC and beyond.  She is currently the Executive Director of The Trans Women of Color Collective.  Ms. Hunter can be found on many local and national stages lecturing in the no non-sense manner that has made her voice and personage such an asset to the LGBTQ as a whole.

If you have experienced violence, be it intimate partner violence, hate crimes, sexual assault, or other trauma …. we want to hear from you. If you want to know how to get involved in the DC Anti-Violence Project and join us in this important work, this is the right place for you. If you are a provider that works with those who have experienced trauma or violence, we want you to join us and share your ideas.

Disclaimer:  Due to our desire to have a productive event, we have invited many professionals from all walks of life to assist with or witness this forum.  MPD members will be present in their casual uniforms to witness the conversation so that we can share our feelings and thoughts about community experiences as they relate to the MPD and our community needs in times of crisis and victimization.  Please know that we as an organization plan to do this in the most sensitive way and with the utmost respect for our community and LGBTQA family members.  If you as an individual do not feel comfortable in the presence of police at all, please join us on 04/12/17 for the Survivor Art Expression Night, which is part of this same program on the day before.  The Survivor Art Expression Night will have a more therapeutic environment with no police presence.
