Bob Summersgill

Bob Summersgill is the leading local gay rights lobbyist before the DC Council. He created and implemented the strategy that allowed DC to expand the domestic partnership law to include all of the rights and responsibilities of marriage without generating opposition locally or in the Congress. He has lobbied for a wide variety of laws to improve the lives of GLBT people in the District over the past 20 years including hate crime laws, sodomy law repeal, criminal code modernization, HIV/AIDS funding and privacy, police and fire department policies, human rights laws, intersex and transgender rights, and equal marriage rights.

He is a recognized expert on sodomy laws; a member of the Rainbow History Project's Advisory Board; a member of Smokefree DC's Governing Board; a member of the Political Committee of the DC Chapter of the Sierra Club; and a member of the Board of DC for Marriage.
