The DCAVP is dedicat ed to eradicating violence against and within the LGBTQ+ community. The DCAVP hosts Taking the Stage LGBTQ+ Voices Against Violence open mic event s and Survivor Art Nights\, as gatherings where LGBTQ+ survivors of trauma and violence can express themselves and find support. The DCAVP also offe rs free counseling for LGBTQ+ survivors of violence and trauma. The lead v olunteer coordinating performances and will be sharing the details for an ongoing Transmasc peer group to follow this event.\n\nGUESTS/PERFORMERS: The mic will be open after the first 5 performers for anyone interested! We are using registrations to help us host a safe and intimate virtual space\, with th e intention that transmasculine folx can speak up/out about experiences o f violence and abuse including those that may have happened pre-transition — a timeline that many transmasculine folx do not share openly for reas ons of stealth\, privacy and/or danger. Transgender men and transmascu line people have experienced high rates of violence\, abuse and trauma\, b ut are often unable to talk about what they've experienced due to masculin ity taboos and concerns about being clocked and further endangered. It is our hope that people attending and/or speaking at this event are able to e xperience healing and release from the stigma and stifling of un-expressed trauma.
