    • Hey Lloyd,

It really depends on their situation, and there are a lot of variables to take into consideration. What state do they currently reside in and do they have a valid drivers license? Are they a Veteran, or on disability? Can they afford to rent a room and if so what is their budget? Do they qualify for Emergency Rental Assistance? So …… the best thing to do is to call the DC Center and have them talk to one our two amazing social workers and we can go from there!

  1. Good afternoon , my name is Maria from RAICES, a non-profit agency providing legal services to underserved immigrants.

One of our services is working with asylum-seeking mothers and children released from family detention centers. Some of these families are in need of shelter placement and we would like to know more about your organization and service population.”

Our service population: Mothers and children (<18 yrs), Majority Central American (Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala), Most Spanish-speakers, some indigenous languages

    Thank you

    • Hi Maria,
The DC Center operates a program called Center Global. Since 2012, Center Global has served 200 LGBT individuals from Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, and the former Soviet Union countries and Russia seeking asylum in the United States. A program of the DC Center for the LGBT Community, Center Global provides a welcoming environment to LGBT asylum seekers, and works to address individual legal and social needs. Where possible, Center Global can provide short-term financial assistance, legal referrals, general and mental health services referrals, and other social support referrals during the asylum process.
      Thank you for your inquiry!
