A DC institution and a favorite neighborhood bar offering something for everyone is really the best way to describe the Green Lantern.

Located in a brightly lit alley just off Thomas Circle at the southern end of Washington DC’s trendy 14th Street corridor, the Green Lantern offers a comfortable friendly ambience that will make anyone feel right at home.

Now open for over 10 years, the “Lantern,” as most regulars call it, has long been known for its exceptionally friendly and welcoming staff.

Open for happy hour everyday at 4pm, the first floor rectangular, granite-topped bar lends itself well to easy interaction among both long-time regulars as well as new arrivals. This is the one place in DC where everyone gets along with each other.

The second floor bar offers a more club-like atmosphere with great sound, lighting and video systems. Make sure you do not miss the Lantern’s famous “Shirtless Men Drink Free” event every Thursday night from 10pm-11 pm. Other DC bars have tried to imitate this event, but the Lantern was the first to offer this long-running event.

The Green Lantern offers something for everyone, be it a happy hour drink after a long day at work or hundreds of shirtless men out on a Thursday night, kick starting their weekends. Make sure you check out the Lantern on Facebook and Twitter for the most up-to-date information and events.

The Green Lantern also hosts many special events and theme nights ranging from dance parties featuring the best of today’s music; to a monthly leather party on the second floor. Be sure to check out the special events page for a complete listing of parties and events.

If you are looking for an attitude free place, something often hard to find in a larger city, the Green Lantern is the place. Let any of the friendly bar staff know you are visiting and they will be happy to introduce you around and get the conversation started. One visit to this long running bar and you will know why locals call it “DC’s Queer Cheers.”

The Green Lantern is available any night for private parties!!

The coaching work I do is focused on two areas: Integral Life Coaching, a powerful form of coaching aimed at personal and professional growth and development. It’s grounded in the notion that when people live and act in a more balanced and holistic way (an integral way), they are much more likely to function optimally in the world; End of Life Coaching is coaching that’s focused upon working with those who are dying (and their families) as well as with those who are grieving the death of another or a loss in their life (marriage, job, beloved pet). As with all coaching, it involves partnering with the client on his or her unique journey.

Kevin Bliss is a certified as both an Integral Professional Coach and End of Life Coach. He comes to coaching out of a 30-year career in energy law and policy. He holds B.A., J.D. and LL.M. degrees.

I believe that successful therapy brings about concrete change, not mere insight. I use a practical, active, goal-focused approach called cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I will guide you in applying a variety of strategies, skills and techniques in your daily life that will help you achieve your personal therapy goals.

I will help you discover your vicious cycles of thoughts, feelings, behaviors and core beliefs that result in depression, anxiety, relationship and/or career problems. We will jointly design weekly therapeutic homework to help you break these vicious cycles and achieve your personal goals.

It is my aim to help you become your own personal therapist so that you can continue using the strategies, skills and techniques that you learned with me to meet future challenges and achieve further goals on your own.

Anxious? Shy? Unassertive? Nervous? Self-conscious? Embarrass easily? Public-speaking fear? Avoid socializing? Difficultly meeting people? Uncomfortable in groups? Pee shy? A specialization of mine is helping people overcome social anxiety: an overblown, debilitating fear of judgment, embarrassment or rejection.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with 32 years experience serving the LGBT community. I am included in Washingtonian magazine’s list of “Top Therapists.”

Lloyd Raines 2019 2.jpeg

Lloyd Raines has been a seasoned practitioner in leadership development for over 30 years and a Master Certified Coach (ICF) since 2004. He works holistically with leaders, appreciating their unique style and capabilities, while bringing to awareness their blindsides and how to address them. He studies leader innovations globally and draws from them to support a leader’s flourishing and positive impact with others. Clients speak of Lloyd’s calm presence, refreshing curiosity, insightful observations, and focus on bringing about changes that serve strategic goals. Within the safety of relationships, he challenges leaders to do what they aspire to do and contribute with others the full wingspan of their collective capabilities.

While in the Army and in Vietnam, Lloyd was on the receiving end of many leadership styles—some effective, others not. He became interested in how people use power in positions of authority. Soon after his tour of duty, he began his undergrad and grad studies in psychology and justice for a deeper understanding of power and leadership. He became director of a non-profit working with juvenile offenders in Washington, DC. Then for two years he taught cops at the Metropolitan Police Training Academy as an adjunct instructor through American University. Shortly afterwards, he was tapped to be Director of the Washington Semester Justice Program at AU where he taught (for five years) honors students from across the country.  While there he learned through feedback from students more effective ways of using his own authority and power in service to learning and development.

He is a founding faculty member of Georgetown University’s Leadership Coaching Program and the Institute for Transformational Leadership. He taught in that program until 2012. Also, for 10 years he taught adult students a unique course he designed on business and professional ethics through University of Maryland University College.

Over the span of his career, he has coached well over 1000 leaders from an internationally diverse group of business, government, and NGO organizations. He has travelled extensively in Asia and Europe, and a smattering of travel in the Middle East, South America, and Africa. In his private life he reads widely and enjoys the arts, writes on leadership, enjoys international travel with his wife and two artistic daughters, and is always open for a good, leisurely café conversation. He was spiritually mentored for 18 years by his venerable chocolate Lab.
